BloomingOUT is a weekly radio show on WFHB committed to covering news and events relevant to the lives of folks in the LGBTQIA community. Produced by Alex Askin, hosts Kim Hahn and Rachael Jones deliver incisive and illuminating news commentary and conversation each week. In addition, each show features an interview with someone whose work is relevant to this community. Last week, I was lucky enough to be that interviewee.
Rachael reached out to me to discuss the potential of my being on the show to discuss my work with mental health in the LGBTQIA community. Having known of Rachael as a prominent community member (who remembers the delicious offerings once available at Rachael's Cafe?) this was the first time we'd talked about our shared work and interests. I was honored to be invited on the show and excited to have another avenue for providing help and recognition for folks who might need it.
Kim, Alex, and Rachael were warm, passionate, and inviting. In the time I spent in the studio, I quickly forgot that we were recording a show and felt instead like I was talking with friends with shared values and passions. Our conversation focused on transgender rights, medical transitions, and ongoing debates related to the fields of gender and mental health. If you are able, please take a moment to listen to last week's episode or one of the many episodes of bloomingOUT on the WFHB website (all episodes are available to listen to or download). Tune in to WFHB on Thursday's at 5:30pm for new episodes each week.
